School Committee · Meeting of May 6, 2026

Chicopee School Committee hired Jennifer Ramsdell as its new special education director. The committee voted 11-0 to approve Ramsdell, who holds a master's from Simmons College and 29 years of special education experience, effective July 1, then unanimously approved her employment contract. Members also approved roughly $3.1 million across three bills warrants, with one member abstaining on each, and gave second-reading approval to nearly 30 policies tied to an $8 million districtwide security camera investment, with member Mrs.

Lopes saying "we are making sure our students stay safe." Three residents urged the district during public comment to expand music and arts programs into elementary and middle schools, and the committee unanimously approved 2026-27 school improvement plans for seven schools before adjourning into executive session to prepare for Chicopee Education Association contract talks.
