School Committee · Meeting of August 24, 2026
Chicopee schools chief pairs academic growth data with a candid look at operations gaps. Superintendent Dr. Marcus Ware told the School Committee his third-year evaluation report showed rising reading and math growth districtwide alongside preliminary findings from an independent Collins Center review citing "communication and transparency gaps" tied to a "longstanding Chicopee way" culture.
"I don't want to sugarcoat anything," Ware said. The committee also voted 8-0 to add a three-hour cafeteria position at Belcher School, approved roughly $1.45 million across three bills warrants, and deleted an outdated non-discrimination policy in favor of the district's Title IX policy. Chronic absenteeism fell from 24.9% to 23.6%, or "just under 90 students," one member noted.
