School Committee · Meeting of March 31, 2026

Chicopee's school finance panel opened its fiscal 2027 budget review, flagging looming federal and state funding losses. Director of Budget and Finance John Mayarecki said falling enrollment has already cost the district $1.9 million, while a drop in the state's low-income funding tier, from Group 11 to Group 10, will cost roughly $5.06 million. Grants manager Chris warned a state-recommended 15 percent cut to Title I aid would shrink Chicopee's allotment from $4,107,673 to $3,491,522, calling the loss "$616,151." Dr.

Ware, who led the workshop, said the district has long known "a cliff, for lack of better words, is coming" and is building a needs-based budget to respond. The subcommittee also noted an education stabilization balance of $8,417,000 and circuit breaker reimbursement projected near $2.2 million. No budget vote was taken; only the prior meeting's minutes and adjournment were approved.
