Zoning Committee continues hearing on Jones Ferry development
City Council - Zoning Committee · Meeting of May 27, 2026
Chicopee Zoning Committee defers action on Jones Ferry housing project. The committee voted 4-0 to continue hearing on the 34-lot residential development at 326 Chicopee Street, with Councilor Joel McAuliffe absent. Engineering warned of insufficient parking, only two to three spaces per unit, while Fire Department raised concerns about 527 CMR Chapter 18 compliance.
Planning recommended reimagining the site to reduce 30-plus requested dimensional waivers. The applicant's representative Rob Levesque countered that Residential C zoning allows multifamily dwellings and that without permit relief, far more units could be proposed by right. The hearing continues June 24 at 6:30 PM.
