ORDINANCE COMMITTEE APPROVES OVERGROWTH ORDINANCE WITH $150 FINE
City Council - Ordinance Committee · Meeting of March 16, 2026
Chicopee's Ordinance Committee approves revised overgrowth ordinance with $150 noncriminal fine enforced by Health Department and Police only. Chair William Courchesne presided over the three-member committee, which removed Department of Public Works from enforcement after Councilor Mary Beth Pniak-Costello argued the Health Department has established procedures and inspectors for violations. The committee also approved a stop sign at Percy Street and Trilby Avenue intersection and corrected no-parking zones on Grattan and Beverly Streets, while postponing a sidewalk snow removal ordinance and tabling a proposal to expand public hearing notification distance from 300 feet to 500 feet due to estimated doubled mailing costs.
