Chicopee Council approves $4.75 million in financial allocations. The City Council unanimously adopted four major appropriations from available "free cash" on June 16, including $3 million to reduce the 2027 fiscal year tax levy and $1 million to fund the Other Post Employment Benefits trust for retiree health and dental coverage. An additional $750,000 was reserved for employee contract settlements.
Councilor Shane Brooks warned that rising property values would offset much of the tax relief and urged the city to attract new business and residents to expand the tax base. The council also accepted $254,672.82 in state grants for police bulletproof vests and municipal fiber infrastructure.
