CHICOPEE — Conservation Commission delays airport fence project decision. The board voted unanimously to table a proposal for 8,000 linear feet of security fencing at Westover Metropolitan Airport, pending review by the state Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program. More than 100 residents signed a petition opposing the project, citing threats to long-used hiking and biking trails and concerns about wildlife movement.
Commissioner Richard Valcourt requested a site visit to assess the portion of the fence within the commission's jurisdiction. The board separately approved a 672-square-foot garage addition at 173 Bridle Path Road with standard erosion control conditions.
