City Council · Meeting of July 7, 2026
Chicopee City Council rejects housing development proposal over insufficient density and setback standards. The seven-to-four vote against a 34-lot development at 326 Chicopee Street fell short of the required two-thirds supermajority, with councilors Avery, Brooks, Goff, and Balakier citing Fire and Engineering department concerns about excessive density and undersized lots. Councilor McAuliffe supported the project as essential to the city's housing shortage; the developer estimated homes at $400,000.
The council also approved four Mayor's Orders totaling $275,355 for police and fire indemnification, golf equipment, Spooktacular and Christmas Tree Lighting events, and HCSO Analysts.
