City Council authorizes $15.2 million in water infrastructure bonds

Chicopee City Council approves $15.2 million in water infrastructure bonds. The council voted unanimously to authorize the appropriations and bonds, including $12.7 million for nitrogen reduction improvements at the Water Pollution Control Facility and $2 million for advanced metering infrastructure affecting 6,000 residents. Additional bond authorizations included $750,000 for water pipeline repairs and $1.25 million combined for vactor truck and combined sewer overflow monitoring.
Councilor Joseph F. Pasternak stated the nitrogen project was necessary to maintain compliance with EPA standards under a 10-year compliance schedule.
