Chicopee adopts Vision Zero traffic safety policy

Chicopee Council adopts ambitious Vision Zero traffic policy, appropriates $8.13M for schools. The City Council unanimously adopted a Vision Zero Policy on Tuesday establishing targets to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 75 percent by 2033, and to achieve zero deaths by 2041. The council directed city departments to complete a Vision Zero Action Plan by July 1, 2026.
In other business, the council appropriated 8.130 million dollars from prior-year school balances to the Stabilization for Education account for fiscal year 2026, approved a 3 percent cost-of-living adjustment for non-union municipal employees effective July 1, and confirmed new appointments to the Housing Authority, Parks Commission, and License Commission.
